PD Dr. Daniel Schiller from NIW Hannover has been awarded the Scientific Award for Human Geography 2013 by the Prof. Dr. Frithjof Voss Stiftung for his oeuvre until now. The price is awarded every two years to a young researcher who has made - by excellent scientific work - important contributions to the progress and reputation of the field of Geography.

NIW decides to start an international cooperation with the Institute for European Studies of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences

The management of the Institute for European Studies of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences has visited the NIW Hannover on 27 June 2013. Professor Nguyen An Ha, the General Director of the Insitute for European Studies, and Professor Thomsen, Director of the NIW, have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, which provides a basis for a more intensive scientific exchange between both institutions.

Environmental Protection as an Economic Factor: New List of Environmental Protection Goods for Research

The importance of environmental protection for the German economy grows. The NIW has already evaluated the production structure and international competitiveness of the environmental protection economy several times on behalf of the Federal Environmental Agency (UBA) and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). These evaluations require a definition which goods belong to environmental protection. The NIWs newly published method report describes the procedure to identify potential environmental protection goods and provides a list of such goods, based on the current list of goods for the productions statistics.
